What is a facade brace?
A facade brace is a diagonal tube across the outer face of a scaffold, resisting movement along the length of the structure. It usually runs continuously up the scaffold in a zigzag.

</figure>A rectangular frame folds. The diagonal cannot change length without the tube stretching or crushing, so it holds the shape — and on the outer face, the shape it holds is the scaffold's resistance to racking along its own length.
Facade braces are normally fixed with swivel couplers, because they meet the standards and ledgers at whatever angle the bay geometry produces rather than at a right angle.
How many, where, and at what spacing is a design matter set by the compliance sheet or the bespoke design. It is not decided by how many tubes are left on the wagon.
What goes wrong on site
- A brace removed for access or a delivery and not replaced, which is the alteration most likely to be missed at the next inspection.
- Braces coupled to boards or guard rails rather than to standards and ledgers.
- A scaffold that feels solid assumed to be adequately braced — racking shows up under wind and load, not under a push.
